“In love he predestined us for adoption as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved.”
I recently purchased a new t-shirt to wear to an upcoming pro-life event. The slogan on my new shirt reads “Adoption Rocks!” Since I wholeheartedly agree with that sentiment, I look forward to sporting my new tee and spreading the message that adoption is a truly wonderful thing.
In our society today, you hear a lot more about adoption than you would have a decade or two ago. It seems that a lot of people, celebrities included, have discovered the beauty of building a family through adoption. And that fact is one worth celebrating.
As Christians, our reasons for celebrating adoption are multi-faceted. Not only do we rejoice in the concept of orphans being forever joined with a loving family, but we also revel in the knowledge of personally experiencing that kind of love. Born as spiritual orphans, we would still be hopeless and helpless had not Jesus Christ made it possible for us to become children of God through faith in Him (John 1:12).
Recently, I told you how much I enjoy music that helps me to meditate on the truths of God’s Word, and for that reason, I’ve come to rely on the work of Sovereign Grace Music. Recognizing a topic that had previously been neglected in Christian music, they recently produced an album which focuses solely on the beautiful truths of our adoption into God’s family. Here’s their description of this special project called Sons & Daughters:
These songs are meant to direct our attention to the unfathomable love God has shown us in adopting us through Jesus Christ (Eph. 1:5). We are now part of God’s family—in Christ we will forever be the objects of God’s particular and passionate mercy and love. That biblical reality, rather than leaving us focused on ourselves, drives us once again to proclaim the greatness of the God whose grace turns hopeless rebels into precious children.
“And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, ‘Abba! Father!” (Gal. 4:6)
The following video provides a sample of the beautiful music and rich theology you’ll find on this album:
You can download Sons & Daughters for $9 here. I highly recommend it.
